Assessing a Local Tour Guide

Activity:

You guessed it!  For this activity/assessment, you are going to actually go on a tour.  You can be a "tourist" at any local park or attraction.  The requirement is that you ask (in advance) for a guide (or a docent).  DO NOT tell them you are studying to be a tour guide!  Just observe!

Time Frame:

You have until the end of the semester to submit this assignment.  PLEASE NOTE:  You will need to complete this assignment for the A or the B grade (see syllabus for details).

What you will need:

Local Area Attraction (to go and see)

Appointment with a Guide (or Docent)

Note Pad- with the questions from this assignment (see below)

Blank Note Pad Sheets (for your notes on the tour)

Pen or Pencil

What you will submit:

After your tour, you will organize the information and type a word document with answers to the following questions:

1.  Did this tour guide display the following:

        Patience

        Energy

        Leadership Qualities

        Organization

        Attention to Detail

        Sense of Humor

        Use a sentence or two to describe how the guide did (or did not) display the qualities listed (above)

2.  Ask the tour guide if he/she has ever had to deal with a "difficult situation"...(such as bad weather or an extra large tour group etc).  Ask them how they handled it.

3.  Ask the guide how much research he/she has to do for that position.

4.  Ask how a "docent" is different from a "guide"...

5.  "Your Opinion"....What did you think of this guide?
