Becoming a Member of Phi Theta Kappa: What You Need to Know
While no time commitment is required of members, participation in Society programs and activities can help you develop the skills and experiences necessary for employment and many transfer scholarship applications.
Phi Theta Kappa provides three methods for accepting membership:
1. Attend any one of the orientation sessions listed below and submit your completed membership application and fee. During the orientation you will learn about the benefits of Phi Theta Kappa membership. The orientation will provide you with specific information about the honor society, the chapter at Pima College, and its programs. Immediately following the orientation, chapter officers will be available to answer questions and accept your membership application and onetime fee of $75.00. If you cannot attend an orientation or need additional time to consider membership, you may select one of the two remaining methods of membership. If you are unable to afford the application fee, a limited number of scholarships are available for those in need. Print and fill out the form found here.
New Member Orientation Sessions for spring 2008:
2. View the online membership orientation, download and complete the membership application you will find there, and mail the completed application with a check or money order for the membership fee. Do not send cash. Checks and money orders must be made payable to Pima Community College – Phi Theta Kappa and must include your student ID number. (We prefer your student ID number beginning with A00 and not your Social Security number.) Mail your completed application and fee payment to Phi Theta Kappa, Pima Community College, 1255 N. Stone Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85709-3000.
3. View the online membership orientation mentioned above, submit your application and pay the membership fee by credit card at http://ptk.org/acceptmembership. To become a member online you will need your unique passcode, consisting of a series of seven letters, printed near the return address on the envelope of this letter. If you lose the passcode, contact the advisor at your campus.
There are three deadlines for membership fees payment. Friday, April 18, 2008, is to ensure you receive an invitation to the induction ceremony honoring you as a new member, and that your name appears in the induction ceremony program. Friday, April 25, 2008, is the deadline for submitting applications by mail. After this date, all applications and fees must be submitted online. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 is the last day to pay membership fees online for the spring semester. Your passcode expires on this date.
