WRT 101 (Honors)     Includes  writing  analytical  and  creative  papers, analysis, and informal, seminar style discussions of various types of literature.

LIT289: Literature and Film

Prerequisite: WRT 102 or Writing 108

During this course, we will view approximately 10 films.  For one of them, The Sweet Hereafter, we will also be reading the novel.  There will be 2 quizzes, one on The Sweet Hereafter and a second quiz on 6 differences between Movies and Films.  The 3 tests will be on assigned readings on Magical Realism, Film Noir, and Ten Concepts of Critical Thinking.  There also will be 1 Essay on one of two films, either the film Quest For Fire or a second film called Walkabout.

Principles and practices of writing. Includes writing college-level essays, review of basic writing skills, written works including a variety of essay types with an emphasis on argumentation, and documented inquiry.

WRT102: Honors

Writing 102 (Honors) is a continuation of Writing 101 (Honors) and will include writing analytical and creative papers, analysis and discussion of various types of literature, developing research skills, and writing a research paper.  This course will also include analyzing literature for meaning and form, understanding the contexts of literature, and writing about literature.  We will be reading selections from various literary genres including short stories, poetry, and one of the 2 following novels: either Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) or The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. 

Note: these 2 novels are not available at East Campus Bookstore. 

Prerequisite: Writing 101 and eligibility for the Pima Honors Program.
