USA Exhibit 810 Showing Number of Waffen SS at "Mauthausen " to be 5000 in 1945. Many of these men were assigned to the Gusen camps, undoubtedly.
USA Exhibit 798 SS Col. Kurt Becher claims to have "caused" Himmler to issue an order to hault the murder of Jews and to have carried such an order to Kaltenbrunner and Pohl in "September and October" 1944. However, when visiting Mauthausen on 27 April 1945, he was told by Ziereis that Kaltenbrunner had ordered that a thousand persons a day must die at Mauthausen.
USA Exhibit 794 Karl Karwinsky, former Secretary of State in the Austrian Cabinet, testifies about the days before the Anschluss and about having seen Kaltenbrunner lead a hunger strike at Kaiser Steinbruch Dentention Center and then later when Karwinsky was himself in Mauthausen.
