Elizabeth Frank - Earth and Sky

Carved found aspen, reclaimed materials, mixed media The artist was inspired by the words of poet Pablo Neruda, “What did the tree learn from the earth to be able to talk with the sky?” This fantastical figure is bound to the earth like the actual tree it is made from. Yet our gaze is drawn upwards by the vertical reach of the sculpture and by the presence of the bird, a symbolic messenger between earth and sky. Frank believes everyone can find an answer to the poet’s question by spending time in the natural world.
